Just days after being sworn in, the Monticello fire chief completed his first task -- rushing into a burning house to save a man.
Monticello Fire Chief Kody Ragan knew he couldn't wait as there was heavy smoke showing.
“We had a very short window of time that we could get this guy out. He took in a lot of smoke at the moment. We got him out as quick as we could and turned him over to EMS,” Ragan told WKYT.
A space heater, blamed for starting the fire, had already burned a hole in the floor.
Monticello firefighters managed to save the house.
Ragan, also a nationally certified EMT, was sworn in as fire chief on Friday.
