N.C. Firefighter Collapses, Dies On Duty

A Parkton volunteer firefighter died of an apparent heart attack while on duty Jan. 29, according to WRAL-TV.

Firefighter James Walters was doing paperwork in the station at night with another firefighter when he collapsed.

Crews administered CPR and used a defibrillator on the 57-year-old and he was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Walters was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital.

He served as a training officer at the department, where his wife, Jackie, also works.

Funeral Information

Visitation for Firefighter Walters will be held Thursday, Feb. 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. with full fire department honors.

Both will take place at locations yet to be determined.
