Ohio FF Dies Two Weeks After Collapsing

A Lancaster firefighter died on Jan. 16 after collapsing at the scene of a fire earlier this month, according to The Lancaster Eagle Gazette.

Lt. Joseph McCafferty was in charge of crews battling an apartment fire on Garfield Avenue on Jan. 2 when experienced a medical emergency and was transported to the Ohio State University Medical Center.

McCafferty had served with the Lancaster, Ohio department since 1973 and is the first Lancaster firefighter to die in the line of duty in the department's history.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
