Louisiana Firefighter Suffers Fatal Heart Attack
Shreveport, La. Fire Captain Frankie Nelson suffered a fatal heart attack on May 10, according to the department's Web site.
Post Condolences HereNelson had completed a 24-hour shift eight hours before the medical emergency occurred at approximately 9:41 p.m. According to the USFA, he responded to a motor vehicle collision at 10 p.m. on May 9 and carried out procedures including incident command, EMS assistance and traffic safety control measures while on scene. He cleared the scene and returned to service at approximately 11:15 p.m. He was relieved of duty at 2 p.m. the following day.
Shreveport Fire Department EMS transported Nelson upon finding him and transported him to the Schumpert Medical Center. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
