A Kansas firefighter collapsed June 16 while battling a house fire.

Lyle Lewis, 49, was a member of Osborne County Fire District #3, according to the Kansas State Firefighters Association.

The Hays Daily News reported Lewis was one of several Osborne County, Stockton and Woodston rural firefighters who responded to the fire on a day when temperatures surpassed 90 degrees. It was after Lewis' second entry into the home, approximately one hour after he was dispatched to the scene from Department No. 3 at Alton, that he showed signs of needing assistance.

He was transported to Osborne County Hospital where he passed away.

A funeral with full fire service honors is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Osborne High School. Afterward, a procession will follow to Kill Creek Cemetery in rural Osborne County.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. at Clark-Gashaw Funeral Home in Osborne.
