Louisiana Firefighter Stricken After Call

A Louisiana firefighter died in March of an apparent stroke following an earlier call.

Alan M. Hermel, 62, responded with Bossier Parish Fire District 1 to a call on March 1 in which a car had struck a pole, according to the USFA.

He was assigned to assist with traffic control. Early the next morning, EMS crews were called to his home. They found him unable to speak.

Hermel was transported to a local facility, then a larger hospital. He underwent two surgeries. He died on March 3.

The USFA was notified on Wednesday of Hermel's death.
