Louisiana Firefighter Stricken at Station
Flags are flying at half-mast in a Louisiana city to honor a firefighter who died on duty at the Crowley Fire Department early Saturday.
Funeral services are set for Tuesday for Capt. Lucein Dale Breaux, 60, stricken at the station as he prepared to respond to a call Saturday morning.
Just after the department was dispatched about 1 a.m. for a crash with extrication, Capt. Breaux called for an ambulance to respond to his substation, saying he was suffering chest pains, said Capt. Louis Romero Jr.
He went into cardiac arrest before the ambulance left the station. He was revived briefly, but arrested again. Despite resuscitative efforts, he was pronounced dead at 1:49 a.m. at American Legion Hospital, Crowley.
"He was looking forward to retirement. As of Friday, he had one year left," Romero said. "He was very dedicated. He will be sadly missed."
Breaux is the fourth person in the combination department's 109 year-history to die in the line of duty.
Visitation is being held until 10 p.m. today, and will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 20 at Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery.
