January Death Of New Hampshire Firefighter Reported

The firefighter died of a "cardiovascular event" the day after responding to an emergency medical call.

According to the United States Fire Administration, Swanzy, N.H., firefighter David R. Packard died the day after responding to an emergency medical call on Jan. 11, 2006.

Packard, 41, responded to the incident around 6 p.m. Jan. 10. After the incident he returned home. The next day around noon, he fell ill and notified his wife that a friend had taken him to a local medical center. At the center he experienced a "cardiovascular event" about an hour after arriving and died, according to the USFA.
