MESA, AZ. -- A captain with the Mesa Fire Department collapsed in his office Monday, and died a short time later.
John Delaney, 44, had been with the fire department for 23 years.
He was found unresponsive in his office. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, and pronounced dead.
The chief said in a written statement: "He is truly loved throughout the Mesa Fire family and his passing is a devastating loss to the organization. Captain Delaney will receive full Mesa Fire Department honors."
Funeral Information
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bunker Family Funeral Home, Mesa.
At 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, a procession will escort the captain from the funeral home to All Saints Catholic Church. A Mass will begin at 11 a.m.
