A local fireman was killed Monday in a crash involving the fire engine he was in.
In Calera, Christopher James Roy was killed after his fire engine crashed into an 18-wheeled truck.
The crash happened shortly after 9:30 Monday morning, on Shelby County Road 87 near Interstate 65.
Roy was following an ambulance to help with a medical call at the time of the crash. His fellow firefighters responded to the scene.
The 25-year-old firefighter was taken by Lifesaver helicopter to UAB Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Roy is the grandson of Calera's mayor, George Roy.
