Indiana Firefighter Killed in Tanker Rollover

Sept. 5, 2006
As the driver was coming out of a curve, the tanker went off the west side of the roadway.

A Wabash Valley firefighter was killed Monday afternoon when he lost control of the tanker truck he was driving and was ejected.

Errett W. Miller, 43, of Staunton was driving a Posey Township Fire Department tanker truck on his way to assist the Cory Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire around 2 p.m.

The accident occurred in Clay County on County Road 425W as Miller was en route to County Road 200N and lower Bloomington Road.

As the driver was coming out of a curve, the tanker went off the west side of the roadway.

Miller then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to go off the east side of the roadway. Miller was ejected when the truck began to roll. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Indiana State Police responded.
