A rescue effort in Lorain County turned fatal for one firefighter while the team tried to pull two stranded teens to safety.
The teens were forced to climb into nearby trees after their Jeep Cherokee became flooded in the high water of the Wellington Reservoir.
Area firefighters and a dive team were dispatched to the scene, and a boat was sent out to rescue the teens. However, the boat was caught in some nearby trees.
One of the divers became overcome by the current and his team member had to pull him from the water. Fellow rescuers tried to revive him, and he was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
The rescuers were able to eventually reach the teens and bring them to safety. They were not hurt.
The teens' Jeep was reported missing Thursday afternoon, where it was last seen on Pitts Road.
Wellington firefighters are working on rescuing the teenagers who are in the car.
That road is next to the reservoir and was flooded from the heavy rains.
