A veteran firefighter with the Patchogue Fire Department collapsed last week while participating in a detail at the station.
Edward Summers, 69, had held numerous positions including captain during his 47-year service as a volunteer at the Long Island company.
Fellow firefighters attempted to revive him after he collapsed, but their efforts proved fruitless.
The exact cause of death has not been determined as yet, according to the USFA.
Funeral Information Visitation for Firefighter Summers will be held on Monday, July 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the fire department at 15 Jennings Ave., Patchogue. A firefighter memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 3 at Our Lady of the Snow Roman Catholic Church, Blue Point, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations in his name be made to the FASNY Firemen's Home, 125 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson, N.Y. 12534.
