West Virginia Firefighter Suffers Heart Attack

Richard Allen Fast, a firefighter with the Midway Volunteer Fire Department in Alum Bridge , West Virginia, died while operating apparatus April 11.

Firefighter Fast, 49, was by himself operating apparatus to the scene of an MVA at approximately 0851hrs when his apparatus gradually drifted off the side of the roadway into the guardrail. The crew that was following him stopped and discovered him in cardiac arrest. Despite all efforts to revive Fast, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
