Mississippi Firefighter Collapses During Training

The U.S. Fire Administration is reporting the death of a Laurel, Mississippi, Pleasant Ridge Volunteer Fire Department member in the line of duty.

Firefighter Sally Renee Clark, 49, a five-year veteran of the department was participating in pump operations training and a fund-raiser at the Pleasant Ridge VFD station on Saturday, April 16, when she collapsed from an apparent heart attack.

Fellow volunteer firefighters and first responders utilized the department's AED and CPR to resuscitate Firefighter Clark prior to the arrival of EmServ Ambulance Service paramedics. Clark was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, Mississippi where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday, April 18.

Firefighter Clark is the wife of Pleasant Ridge VFD Chief Billy Clark.

Funeral Arrangements: Services were held April 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Hwy 29, Ellisville, MS.

Memorials may be made to the Renee Clark Memorial Fund in care of the Pleasant Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, 22 Holly Road, Laurel, MS 39443
