Efforts to recover the bodies of the six Worcester firefighters continued non-stop for eight days. After the fire was knocked down and exterior streams were shut, it was determined that to prevent further injury or death to operating personnel, the building needed to be partially taken down. This allowed firefighters, some whom operated for hours non-stop, to check the debris for the missing six members of the Worcester Fire Department. Command posts, rehab, manpower coordination and areas for the missing firefighters’ families were set up across the street from the fire building. Firefighters worked virtually non stop for eight days through extreme weather until the last firefighter was recovered from the site.
