A fire police officer with the Bristol Fire Company died after responding to a blaze at a chemical plant early Wednesday morning.
Fire Police Officer Dave Wintz suffered a heart attack not long after leaving the scene and was transported to Aria-Torresdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to WTXF-TV.
Crews responded to the fire at the Dow Chemical plant on Route 413 around 3:35 a.m. in the Croydon section of Bristol.
Officials say a lightning strike started the blaze in two storage tanks and reached three alarms before firefighters were able to knock down the flames with foam close to two hours later.
Hazmat crews responded to the scene and a news release from Dow identified the chemicals burning as ethyl acetate and butyl acetate.
There is no threat to nearby homes or businesses as the plan is located in an industrial area.
