An assistant chief with the Summerville Fire Rescue Department died Monday from an apparent heart attack just hours after responding to a call.
Assistant Chief Donald Suggs, 55, responded to an emergency call around 11 a.m. on June 10 and collapsed around 9 p.m. after returning home, according to the USFA.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced at approximately 1 a.m.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Suggs had been with the department, which is located in Lillington and is part of Harnett County District 11, for more than a decade.
Funeral Arrangements:
Visitation for Suggs will be held Wednesday, June 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at O'Quinn Peebles Funeral Home, 1310 South Main Street, Lillington.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14 at 11 am at Lillington Baptist Church, 210 West Lofton Street, Lillington.
Burial will follow at West View Memorial Gardens in Lillington.
