Peekskill Firefighter Dies of Apparent Heart Attack

Firefighter Kevin Bristol, 48, fell ill at a house fire Monday.

A New York fire department is reeling following the loss of a brother.

Peekskill Firefighter Kevin Bristol. 48, died of an apparent heart attack after falling ill at a fire on Monday.

He went home saying he didn't feel well, and later, was found by his wife in cardiac arrest. Responders attempted to revive him. However, he was pronounced dead at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

Family members, firefighters and friends gathered at the hospital Monday to grieve his death, Peekskill First Assistant Fire Chief Vincent Malaspina told reporters. .

Bristol started in the department as a volunteer at 19 and then became a career firefighter.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
