An assistant chief and EMT with the Bright Volunteer Fire Department & EMS in Lawrenceburg, suffered an apparent fatal heart attack after he had responded to a call.
Tom D. Stevens Sr., 59, of Lawrenceburg died at Mercy Harrison Medical Center in Harrison, Ohio, after crews from his department treated him, according to the United States Fire Administration.
The USFA reported Stevens’ cause of death as heart attack that may have been caused by stress/overexertion. Stevens, a 14-year member of the Bright Volunteer Fire Department & EMS, died Monday morning.
According to a report published by the local radio station Eagle Country, 99.3, Stevens joined the department in 2000 and earned the promotion to assistant chief about two years ago.
Stevens’ wife of 39-years, Debbie, is an EMT with the department and their son Tom Jr. is a firefighter with the same department, according to the radio station.
Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, March 20 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Bright Christian Church. The funeral service will follow starting at 5:00. Stevens’ family is asking that memorial contributions be made to Bright Fire & EMS.
