Maine Firefighter Stricken Behind Wheel of Tanker

On May 23, a Maine firefighter answered his final call.

Phippsburg Firefighter David Bourget, 59, was stricken while he was behind the wheel of the tanker that was headed to a standby.

Paramedics rushed to treat him, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Bourget, a 40-year-fire service veteran, was headed to a local fireworks display when he fell ill.

This brings to 37 the number of firefighters who died on duty this year, according to the USFA.
