Firefighter Killed in CA Tanker Rollover Identified

CAL Fire contract firefighter Garrett Paiz was driving an empty tanker when it left the road in Napa.

The U.S. Fire Administration has identified the CAL Fire contract firefighter who died in Monday's tanker rollover.

Firefighter/Driver Garrett Paiz, 38, was driving an empty 1993 Kenworth tanker when it left the roadway around 6:45 a.m. in Napa.

The tanker left the roadway on a curve and crashed through a guardrail and down a ravine, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paiz died at the scene, officials said.

He was working on a water resupply run for crews battling the Nuns fire near Oakville when the crash occurred. 

Paiz, a contract firefighter for CAL Fire, was also a volunteer firefighter in Noel, MO.
