May 15 -- The Attleboro Fire Department is mourning the loss of Thomas Cannon, who died after collapsing while on-duty, officials said.

Cannon, 63, collapsed and went into cardiac arrest while performing truck and equipment checks at the beginning of his shift on Sunday at the Twin Village Fire Station.

Fellow firefighters revived Cannon and got him to the hospital.

The more than 30-year veteran of the department died Monday.

"I am very saddened at the news of Thomas Cannon's line of duty death. He served our department with distinction and pride for over 30 years," Attleboro Fire Chief Scott Lachance said. "On behalf of the entire Attleboro Fire Department I want to extend our love and prayers to his family and loved ones."

Cannon leaves behind his wife Alice and three sons, Lucas, Jacob and Seth, who is a Sandwich firefighter.

Black flags hung over the firetruck bays at the station as the department mourned the loss of Cannon.

Funeral arrangements will be announced when they are complete, officials said.
