NC Chief Stricken after Certification Class Dies

Engelhard Fire & Rescue Chief Tony Spencer III suffered cardiac arrest on May 31 hours after a hose certification class and died on Sunday.

The chief of Engelhard Fire & Rescue suffered cardiac arrest hours after a Firefighter I & II hose certification class and succumbed to his injuries several days later.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Chief Tony Spencer III had finished the class at about 9 p.m. on May 31 and suffered the cardiac event at his home around 1:30 the next morning before being airlifted to Norfolk Medical Center, where he died on Sunday.

Funeral arrangements are pending for the 51 year old, who had served for over 30 years.
