CA Fire Mechanic Dies in Fiery Wreck at Wildfire

A Cal Fire heavy equipment mechanic has become the eighth person to die in the Carr Fire. He died in a fiery wreck after the truck he was driving crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

According to The Sacramento Bee, Andrew Brake, 40, from Chico, was killed Thursday morning after a crash on Highway 99. According to reports from the  California Highway Patrol, Brake was headed north on the road that made a slight curve to the left and he “failed to maintain his path.”

CHP reported the truck he was driving drifted off the road to the right and hit a tree at 12:17 am and the truck was engulfed in flames upon impact, the newspaper reported. Brake died in the vehicle fire, according to reports.

The Carr Fire has exceeded 177,000 acres and is less than 50 percent contained, according to the newspaper.

Brake’s death is the fourth to have occurred as result of fire-related work. Four civilians, including a grandmother and her two grandchildren, have been killed in the deadly fire.
