NJ Firefighter Killed in Christmas Wreck

Mizpah volunteer firefighter Natalie Dempsey was killed Christmas morning in a wreck while driving to an emergency response in Atlantic County.

A 21-year-old volunteer firefighter in southern New Jersey was killed in a wreck on Christmas morning while she was responding to a call.

The Mizpah Volunteer Fire Company in Atlantic County announced in a Facebook post that firefighter Natalie Dempsey died in a wreck shortly after 6 a.m. while heading to an emergency in her personal vehicle.

Hamilton Township police say the young firefighter apparently lost control of her vehicle, veered off the road and struck a guardrail. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The U.S. Fire Administration, which was affected by the 35-day government shutdown, announced Dempsey's line-of-duty death on Monday.
