AL Firefighter Dies after Medical Episode

Palmerdale Fire District firefighter Brenden Pierce, who had been working on becoming a paramedic, suffered the medical event on duty Tuesday and died Wednesday night.

An Alabama firefighter died after a medical episode at his fire station.

Firefighter Brenden Pierce, 21, suffered the medical event Tuesday while on duty at Palmerdale Fire District's Station 3, according to a social media post by the department. He was taken to Grandview Medical Center, where he died Wednesday night.

At the time of his death, Pierce had been working on getting his paramedic license, the department said. He also served in the same fire district where his father, Allen Pierce, had been chief.

"We will miss him dearly and offer sincerest condolences to his family and friends," the department said in a statement.

Funeral arrangements for Pierce, whose organs will be donated, have not been finalized, but he will be buried with full fire department honors. Departments wanting to participate in his funeral procession should contact Capt. David Kearns at 205- 683-3336.
