"Truro has lost a young, outgoing, charismatic man," the town said of firefighter Skyler Blackie, who was injured earlier this month at the Nova Scotia Firefighters School.

A Canadian firefighter injured during a training exercise died Wednesday.

Truro firefighter Skyler Blackie, 29, had been hurt during a drill March 9 at the Nova Scotia Firefighters School in Waverly. Doctors had taken the career firefighter off life support Tuesday, and he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday, the Truro News reports.

"Truro has lost a young, outgoing, charismatic man who will be missed deeply by his wife, his family, his family of firefighters, his friends and co-workers," an online post by the town in Nova Scotia stated. "Our heartfelt condolences are with his loved ones at this very difficult time."

Funeral arrangements were still pending, but Truro Mayor Bill Mills told the News that services would be next week.

“I’m floored to be honest with you,” Mills added. “It certainly sent shock waves through the whole community and the fire community.”
