A veteran firefighter from Suffolk County on Long Island died this week following a response.
The US Fire Administration announced Friday that East Farmingdale firefighter Michael Cardinale Sr., a volunteer for 25 years, responded to a vehicle crash Wednesday and was found unresponsive a short time after returning to quarters.
The 63-year-old Cardinale had gone to the station's upper floor sitting room before he was found about 25 minutes later by a fellow firefighter.
Life-saving efforts were immediately performed, but unfortunately Cardinale was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.
According to the East Farmingdale Volunteer Fire Company's Facebook page, a service will be held for Cardinale at the Boyd Spencer Funeral Home in Babylon on Sunday evening before a private family mass at Our Lady of Grace Church in West Babylon.
