A North Carolina rescue squad worker died while on a medical call Wednesday.
Richard Montgomery of Davidson County Rescue Squad's Rescue 4 was responding to a medical assist call when he died, the agency said in an online update. According to reports, Montgomery died while performing CPR.
"He joined us last year and hit the ground running," Christy T Leonard, the rescue squad's vice president, said in a statement. "He has accepted responsibility of our Juniors Program along with many other tasks. His mother said that he passed away doing what he loved."
In a later update, the rescue squad thanked rescue workers who tried to revive Montgomery.
"To the first responders who administered life saving efforts to Richard, we thank you. We are here for each of you in the days ahead," the agency stated.
"The extreme void that the loss of Richard has created has been felt throughout the Public Service community," the rescue squad added.
