Oct. 8, 2020
Colmar Volunteer Fire Company firefighter Edward "Gary" Minnick, 65, died last week, and Gov. Tom Wolf ordered all Montgomery County flags to be flown at half-staff.

Gov. Tom Wolf ordered all Montgomery County flags to be at half-staff Wednesday to honor a Colmar firefighter who died in the line of duty last week.

Colmar Volunteer Fire Co. announced that Edward "Gary" Minnick died in the line of duty Thursday. The fire company did not say the cause of Minnick's death.

Wolf order flags in the county remain at half-staff until the end of the day Wednesday, which is the day Minnick's funeral was scheduled for.

Minnick, 65, was an 18-year member of the fire company, according to his obituary.

He was a volunteer firefighter in Warminster before that. Minnick was also a crossing guard for Lansdale Borough, his obituary states.

Colmar Fire Co. covers Hatfield. The police department there said Minnick will be missed by many and will remain loved by all.

"The officers of the Hatfield Police Department are thankful for all of his work through the years. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. A life well lived and a life well served. Thank you, Gary," a statement from the department reads in part.

The township posted on its Facebook page that Minnick was a dedicated and brave public servant.

Minnick is survived by his wife, three stepchildren, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, according to his obituary.
