A longtime Texas firefighter died Thursday following a lengthy battle with COVID-19.
Fort Worth Fire Capt. Randy Robinson had been with the department for 39 years, according to the agency. Chief Jim Davis said the department and the city were grateful for Robinson's service over the years.
“Randy spent nearly four decades with the Fort Worth Fire Department, Davis said in a statement. "He was a mentor and a leader. His loss will be felt across the Department for some time."

A message from Robinson's daughter, Lauren, that was posted Dec. 11 to the Fort Worth Retired Firefighters Association's Facebook page stated that his condition had been worsening at that time. Robinson had been on a ventilator, and doctors were trying to reduce the amount of oxygen he needed from it. She said he wasn't a candidate for a tracheostomy because of his "poor condition."

Along with his daughter, Robinson also is survived by a son.
