AK Firefighter Died after Completing Shift

Engineer Justin Hansen died after completing a 24-hour shift with the Central Mat-Su Fire Department in June.

An engineer from Central Mat-Su Fire Department in Wasilla died following a June shift.  

Justin Hansen, 37, ended a 24-hour shift on June 27. He was found deceased after a few hours after returning home from the station, the U.S. Fire Administration confirmed in a notice.

He died from a cardiac related issue, according to the message.

Hansen served the fire department for eight years.

"Engineer Hansen has completed the task, his duties well done," the fire department posted on their Facebook page.

A memorial service was held on July 10.
