WA Firefighter Dies in Fall from Bridge Investigating Fire

Cody Traber, who served Spokane County Fire District 9 for 18 years, fell from a bridge while investigating a reported brush fire.

A veteran Spokane County Fire District 9 firefighter died after responding to a brush fire.

The district announced that Lieutenant/Paramedic Cody Traber, an 18-year member of District 9, responded to a brush fire about 10 p.m. Thursday. 

Traber was investigating the fire when he fell from a bridge at Interstate 395 and Wandermere, according to KXLY-TV.

Traber previously worked with Cheney Fire Department, Stevens County Fire District #1 and the Department of Natural Resources Arcadia District.

"This a very difficult time for the Traber family and our Fire 9 Family," Fire Chief Jack Cates wrote on the district's Facebook page.

Traber leaves behind his wife, Allisyn and four young children.
