Two firefighters died after being burned as multiple wildfires burn across Spain.

Jaime Aparicio, 37, sustained burns to 85 percent of his body in the same fire that claimed the life of 35-year-old firefighter Abel Ramos.

Both volunteer firefighters were trapped and overrun by flames while trying to create fire breaks earlier in the week near Nogarejas, in the Leon province, according to Reuters

Abel died from his injuries Tuesday and Aparicio died Thursday.

“Today we mourn the death of another member of the team fighting fires in Leon,” national government’s representative Nicanor Sen shared on X.

The two were caught as two fires burned toward each other, officials said.

Nineteen fires were reported across Spain and several people have died. They have forced over 9,500 people to evacuate.
