FDNY paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman died Wednesday morning after he completed his shift at the FDNY Fire Academy.
FDNY's fire commissioner announced Thursday afternoon that a paramedic passed away yesterday, following his shift.
Salih Abdur Rahman, 46, died Wednesday morning after he completed his shift at the Randall's Island fire academy.
“The FDNY is mourning the loss of Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, a dedicated Paramedic who served the people of New York for more than two decades,” FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said in a statement. “He touched the lives of so many EMTs and Paramedics, and the many whose lives he saved.”
He joined the department on Oct. 18, 2002 and was promoted to paramedic in 2021.
Peter Matthews is the conference director and editor-in-chief of Firehouse. He has worked at Firehouse since 1999, serving in various roles on both Firehouse Magazine and Firehouse.com staffs. He completed an internship with the Rochester, NY, Fire Department and served with fire departments in Rush, NY, and Laurel, MD, and was a lieutenant with the Glenwood Fire Company in Glenwood Landing, NY. Matthews served as photographer for the St. Paul, MN, Fire Department and currently is a photographer for the Fort Worth, TX, Fire Department.
