Contract Firefighter Killed in Apparatus Rollover at CA Racetrack

The Advanced Fire and Rescue firefighter was pronounced dead on the scene at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.

A firefighter with a private fire and rescue company was killed in a recent crash at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.

Advanced Fire and Rescue Services Firefighter Carlos Emilio Ramirez Jr 28, of Lancaster, was reponding to an incident when the rig rolled over, according to The Taft Midway Driller.

Ramirez, who was driving, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was injured. But, no information about the injuries has been released.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of a member of the on-site fire and rescue team during an incident at Buttonwillow Raceway Park...Today we pause as a racing community to honor their service and commitment to the safety of others.Our hearts are with their family, colleagues, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time." Buttonwillow officials wrote in a statement.

The agency has provided fire and emergency services for many years.

Race track officials also said they also are working with OSHA as they are investigating the fatal crash.
