Greeley County, KS, Firefighter Dies During Training Event

A funeral will be held Friday for a Greely County Fire & Rescue firefighter who was stricken during a training.

Carl "Levi" Evans, 42, died on April 8 after suffered medical emergency during a fire department training event.

"Levi's commitment, courage, and selflessness will never be forgotten. We stand with his family, friends, and department during this difficult time," the Kansas Fire Marshal's Office posted on Facebook.

According to KAKE, Evans was a former sherrif's deputy.

"From his time serving in the sheriff’s office to his commitment as a volunteer firefighter, Levi Evans was dedicated to protecting his community,” Gov. Laura Kelly told KAKE. “The loss of a first responder is always a tragedy. My thoughts go out to Levi’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”"

Evans leaves behind a wife and two sons, according to his obituary.

Visitation will be April 15, 12:00 - 8:00 p.m. and April 16, 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Tribune. A funeral will be held April 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Tribune.
