Nelson County, KY, Paramedic Dies of Injuries in Crash

During his last shift, Nelson County Paramedic Wesley England had been involved in a physical altercation with a patient.

EMS, fire and police officers saluted as a Nelson County paramedic was returned to Kentucky.

Wesley England, 41, who worked for Nelson County EMS, suffered an apparent heart attack while driving his personal vehicle after a busy shift including one that involved a physical encounter with a patient at a detention center, according to WDRB.

He was stricken while at a light on May 23. His vehicle crashed into the one in front of his. After impact, his vehicle hit a parked minivan and a light pole.

England was flown to a Tennessee trauma cener where he was placed on life support. He died June 2. 

On Tuesday, he was placed in the ambulance he worked in and escorted back to Hart County, KY by EMS, firefighters and police officers.

"The outpouring of support we witnessed along the way was truly humbling. From the Tennessee and Kentucky State Police escorting to city and county law enforcement, fire departments, EMS agencies, towing services, and members of the public who stood silently along roadways—your presence meant everything," Nelson County EMS officials posted on its Facebook page. 
 
England was a deputy sherff with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and school resource officer.
 
He also served part-time with Washington County EMS and Cumberland County EMS 

Funeral arrangements are pending.
