Update: Chicago Firefighter Dies of Injuries Suffered at Building Fire
A Chicago firefighter died Tuesday of injuries suffered at a building fire on Monday.
Firefighter Mike Altman fell through a floor into a room that was fully involved in fire.
He sustained massive second and third-degree and was transfered to the burn unit at Cook County Hospital, CBS reported.
“We had one firefighter go through the floor. He was quickly rescued by the members of squad two, one of our heavy rescues in the city. They had him out within, I’m going to say under a minute,” Chicago Deputy District Chief Kelly Burns told reporters at the scene.
Sources told reporters that Altman was a third generation firefighter. His grandfather was a high-ranking officer while his father was a deputy district chief.
