Three Firefighters Killed Battling Wildfire near UT-CO Border
Three federal firefighters were killed and two others were injured Saturday as wildfires spread at the Utah and Colorado border.
The firefighters were involved in a burnover incident resulting in shelter deployment. Three were killed while two others were transported for burn injuries, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Interior.
"The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten," officials announced on its Facebook page early Sunday.
The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is a new agency created earlier this year by the U.S. Department of Interior.
Wildfire activity has intensified across the western states after consecutive days of hot, windy and dry weather, according to the AP.
More information will be provided when it becomes available.
