Portland police are investigating the stabbing of an off-duty Portland fire lieutenant at a bar on Southwest Morrison Street Saturday night, according to police and fire officials.
Police were called to the 2020 block of Southwest Morrison Street at 8:05 p.m.
A woman called 911 to report that her husband had been randomly stabbed.
The victim, a 23-year Portland Fire Bureau veteran, was found stabbed inside Kingston Sports Bar & Grill, according to Portland Sgt. Kevin Allen and Portland Fire Lt. Laurent Picard.
Picard said late Saturday night that the stabbing was "unprovoked.''
Officers responded to the scene and searched for the suspect. He was described as a man between the ages of 25 and 30, about 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with a short crew cut and a small amount of facial hair. He was described as wearing black pants, a black jacket and a white glove.
He was last seen fleeing on foot eastbound on West Burnside Street, police said. Officers also obtained video surveillance footage of the suspect, and distributed it to officers soon after the assault.j
The veteran firefighter was taken by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Allen and Picard said.
Neither Allen or Picard identified the off-duty fire lieutenant stabbed.
Fire Chief Sara Boone and other ranking fire bureau supervisors responded to the hospital late Saturday night. Picard did not say where the fire lieutenant was stabbed, only that "things are going well'' at the hospital.
