DAYS CREEK, Ore. (AP) -- A fire near this Douglas County town had burned more than 3,300 acres by Saturday evening, and the Red Cross has called for a voluntary evacuation of some 100 residences.
The fire, which broke out Friday evening and grew rapidly, has destroyed one structure and is threatening others.
A Red Cross emergency shelter has been set up at Days Creek High School.
It is in the same area as the Bland Mountain Fire of 1987 that killed two men, burned some 10,000 acres and destroyed 14 homes.
The new fire, also called the Bland Mountain Fire, is in second-growth timber and brush in steep terrain. About 400 firefighters are assigned to it.
Tiller Trail Highway, which leads east out of Canyonville, has been closed to all but local traffic.
Three fires remained burning in Crater Lake National Park Saturday, most of them small. The Pacific Crest and Lightning Springs trails have been reopened, the National Park Service said.
Rain that moved into northwestern Oregon Saturday night was not expected to fall as far south as the Bland Mountain Fire over the weekend, KGW television news reported.
