CEDAREDGE, Colo. (AP) -- Cool weather helped firefighters on the lines of a 2,960-acre wildfire Tuesday as helicopters worked to douse hot spots in the interior of the fire.

The fire was 70 percent contained, fire information officer Beth Hermanson said in a statement. Fire managers expected containment by Wednesday.

An evacuation recommendation for 129 houses near the fire was lifted on Monday, and no structures were threatened by Tuesday morning, Hermanson said.

At the height of the fire Saturday, residents left least four homes.

More than 215 firefighters, nine engines and the two helicopters were at the scene.

An 83-acre fire burning near Montrose was contained Tuesday.

In southwestern Colorado, smoke from a 200-acre wildfire 18 miles northeast of Dolores could be seen as far away as Farmington, N.M., the Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch said in a statement.

That fire was in a remote area was being allowed to burn.
