Photo Story: Two-alarm Fire Hits Vacant Texas Building

Aug. 14, 2014
Fort Worth Engine 6 reported heavy fire coming from a two-story vacant building and began an interior attack.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Aug. 12, the Fort Worth Fire Department received calls of a structure fire a 406 W Central Ave. Dispatch information indicated there may be persons trapped inside the structure.

Less than two minutes after dispatch, the crew of Engine 6 found heavy fire showing from a two-story building occupied by Hoover Furniture.

The crew initiated an interior fire attack to effect possible rescue and suppression efforts.

As structural stability deteriorated and heat conditions increased, fire personnel were forced to withdrawal from the structure and assume a defensive operation.

The incident expanded to greater than two alarms, with 30 fire units and 87 fire personnel on scene.

The fire was placed under control just before 11:30 p.m.

It appears the business has been vacant for some time, but neighbors report transient citizens' occasional use the building for shelter.
