Fort Worth firefighters knocked a gas-fed house fire on March 23.

Crews were called to the 5000 block of David Strickland Road for a dwelling fire around 5 a.m.

While firefighters were battling the flames, a section of the roof collapsed. That damaged the gas meter, which was then engulfed in flames.

The utility company used a backhoe to dig a trench to access the gas main and shut it off.

The fire caused $45,000 damage.
