A dozen fire companies responded to a March 29 fire that destroyed a vacant home.
The Englewood Fire Alarm Office dispatched Engines 123 and 116, Tower Ladder 39, Squad 5 and Battalion 19 to West Garfield Boulevard and South Damen Avenue at 4:07 p.m. Additional calls prompted dispatchers to fill out the box alarm assignment, adding two engines, two ladders and several command officers and support units.
Crews encountered heavy fire from the 2 1/2-story home and used a defensive attack, including Tower Ladder 39's elevated master stream.
