Four departments were needed to contain a May 9 garage fire that quickly spread to adjacent structures in Newport.
Newport firefighters responded to a reported fire around 2:50 p.m. on the 700 block of 7th Avenue South.
Crews found two double-wide garages fully involved extending to the homes on both sides. One was a one-story home, the other a 2 1/2-story home.
Several handlines were laid to knock down the garage fires and to fight the fire that had extended into the homes. Crews initially conducted interior operations on the dwellings but had to back out as the fire had extended into the attics.
Woodbury set up their Tele-squrt to knock down the fire as it vented through the roofs. Crews remained on sight for several hours as they had to do extensive overhaul on multiple structures.
Mutual aid came from Cottage Grove Saint Paul Park and Woodbury.
