Rocky Mount firefighters were able to halt a fire before it spread through a motel on Dec. 2.

Firefighters from Rocky Mount Stations 1, 4, 5 and 6 and Nash County EMS were dispatched to motel fire on N. Wesleyan Boulevard just before noon.

Engine 4 dropped a 5-inch supply line in from a nearby hydrant and the crew deployed a 2 1/2-inch hoseline. One hotel unit was fully involved and fire was spreading the exterior covered walkway. The crew was able to stop the fire from extending before entering the fully engulfed room.

Other crews used 1 3/4-inch hoselines to stop fire that was spreading through the the attic.

Three of the 16 rooms in the motel were damaged, plus the roof of the covered walkway.

Smoke alarms alerted occupants to the fire and the building was evacuated when they arrived.
