Firehouse highlights recent fires from around the country.

Torrance, CA, Sept. 19, 2019—Shortly after takeoff from Torrance Municipal Airport, a Cessna began experiencing engine problems and crashed into a row of businesses at a shopping center in the town. Torrance Fire Department Engine 92 was first on scene. Firefighters encountered heavy vapors upon arrival and applied foam to the fuel problem. The pilot succumbed to his injuries at the scene and his passenger was in critical condition.

Riverside, CA, Sept. 3, 2019—The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3020 E. La Cadena at the Flyers Fuel Station. According to a press release, upon arrival firefighters discovered a fully involved commercial structure building that is used to store tires for Eagle Tire. The incident is currently under investigation.

Cumberland County, NJ, Sept. 17, 2019—The Rosehayn Volunteer Fire Company from Deerfield Township responded to F&S Produce for a report of a structure fire with entrapment. Chief Mark Ciafologio arrived and established command and immediately requested a second alarm. The fire escalated to multiple alarm status with a request for water tenders from four South Jersey counties.

Royal Oak, MI, Sept. 12, 2019—The Royal Oak Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, heavy smoke was showing from the occupied dwelling, with charged primary lines down on the structure. Crews attempted to make an interior attack but were unable to make the 2nd floor. Command ordered a defensive attack and with fire venting from the roof, a ladder pipe was briefly put into operation. Engine 920, 930, 910, Ladder 912, Rescue 91/92 and Cars 905 and 908 responded to this incident.
